Maximum strength <strong>of</strong>Armed <strong>Police</strong> 11,663 was in Delhi, followedby 9341 in Kolkata <strong>and</strong> 5786 in Chennai cities.The <strong>of</strong>ficers to constabulary ratio <strong>of</strong> Civil <strong>Police</strong>in total for all these metro cities works out tobe 1:4.7 as against All India average <strong>of</strong> 1:5.8.Details are given in Table – 3.12, 3.13 & 3.14.(Page No. 67,68 & 69)Strength <strong>of</strong> some Central Armed <strong>Police</strong> Forces(CAPFs)Rankwise sanctioned & actual strength <strong>of</strong>some Central Armed <strong>Police</strong> Forces (CAPFs) havebeen compiled. The analysis <strong>of</strong> data shows thatthere were 16,733 Gazetted <strong>and</strong> 9,44,965 Non-Gazetted <strong>of</strong>ficers adding upto a total sanctionedstrength <strong>of</strong> 9,61,698 <strong>Police</strong> Personnel in theCAPFs in our country. However, the actualstrength was 12,241 <strong>of</strong> Gazetted <strong>and</strong> 8,06,062<strong>of</strong> non Gazetted <strong>of</strong>ficers (all ranks) adding up toa total <strong>of</strong> 8,18,303 police personnel availablein the CAPFs as on 1.1.<strong>2012</strong>. The maximumnumber <strong>of</strong> 2,46,733 police personnel wereavailable in the Central Reserve <strong>Police</strong> Force(CRPF) against the sanctioned strength <strong>of</strong>2,90,752 followed by 2,14,118 in the BorderSecurity Force (BSF) against the sanctionedstrength <strong>of</strong> 2,40,532 <strong>and</strong> 1,11,164 in theCentral Industrial Security Force (CISF) againstthe strength <strong>of</strong> 1,30,156. CRPF assists the StateGovernments in maintenance <strong>of</strong> law <strong>and</strong> order<strong>and</strong> in the performance <strong>of</strong> various internalsecurity duties. BSF, ITBP, Assam Rifles & SSBare meant to guard our international borders<strong>and</strong> for providing need based assistance to civiladministration in the maintenance <strong>of</strong> law <strong>and</strong>order <strong>and</strong> internal security.
