CHAPTER 9POLICE RECRUITMENT AND TRAININGState Wise Data On :• <strong>Police</strong> Personnel Recruited• <strong>Police</strong> Personnel Trained• Information on IPS OfficersThis chapter depicts the information/data on State/UT in respect <strong>of</strong> number <strong>of</strong>police personnel (Constables, S.Is, Sergeants,ASIs, etc.) recruited during 2011; number <strong>of</strong>newly recruited police personnel trained <strong>and</strong>number <strong>of</strong> police personnel given in-servicetraining during 2011.<strong>Police</strong> Personnel RecruitedA total <strong>of</strong> 78,425 police constables wererecruited fresh during 2011 as against 99089in 2010 in the country. At state level themaximum <strong>of</strong> 17,106 recruitments were madein Maharashtra State followed by 8635 in TamilNadu <strong>and</strong> 6967 in Rajasthan.The number <strong>of</strong> Sub. Inspectors (SIs)/Assistant Sub. Inspectors (ASIs) recruitedduring 2011 were 3875 whereas this figure was9404 during 2010. At state level the maximum<strong>of</strong> 1,380 SIs/ASIs were recruited in AndhraPradesh followed by 1069 in Tamil Nadu <strong>and</strong>462 in Madhya Pradesh.Details are given in Table – 9.1. SsP, 8697 SIs/ ASIs/ Sargents, <strong>and</strong> 1,10,960 Constables <strong>of</strong> policeforce were trained during the year 2011.At state level the maximum <strong>of</strong> 99 Dy.SPs<strong>of</strong> J&K <strong>Police</strong>, followed by 63 Dy.SPs <strong>of</strong> Gujarat<strong>and</strong> 49 <strong>of</strong> Rajasthan got training during 2011while 3374 SIs/ASIs from Bihar <strong>Police</strong> Force1,185 from Andhra Pradesh <strong>and</strong> 1093 fromGujarat <strong>Police</strong> were trained during this period.The maximum <strong>of</strong> 28,578 constables <strong>of</strong> UttarPradesh <strong>Police</strong> Force, 12,046 from AndhraPradesh <strong>and</strong> 8,635 from Tamil Nadu <strong>Police</strong>were trained during the year 2011. (Page No. 109)<strong>Police</strong> in-service trainingA total <strong>of</strong> 97,864 police personnel fromStates/UTs police forces were given in-servicetraining during the year 2011 in the country.Of these, 1,018 IPS, 2,261 Dy.SsP, 32,289 SIs/Sergeants/ASIs <strong>and</strong> 62,296 constables weregiven in-service training during 2011. Detailsare given in Table – 9.3. (Page No. 110)At state level the maximum <strong>of</strong> 118 IPSOfficers from Karnataka followed by 104IPS Officers from Madhya Pradesh <strong>and</strong> 78from Gujarat (including some <strong>of</strong>ficers havingundergone training more than once), weregiven in-service training during 2011. Duringthis period Uttar Pradesh <strong>Police</strong> has givenin-service training to 408 Dy.SsP followed106
