PROVISION OF ARTIFICIAL NESTS AS CONSERVATION MEASUREFOR THE CONSERVATION OF IMPERIAL EAGLE (AQUILA HELIACASAVIGNY, 1809)G.Zh. Gradev, P.V. Zhelev, L.G. YankovGreen Balkans – Stara Zagora NGO, Stara Zagora 6000, 9 Stara Planina Street;e-mail: officesz@greenbalkans.org ; ggradev@greenbalkans.orgThe report presents the effect of artificial nests installation with the aim to supportnesting of the Imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca). In the period March 2009 – April2010, the Green Balkans NGO team installed 10 artificial nests. The nests weremounted on poplars and oaks in the area of Dervent Heights, Middle and LowerTundzha River and adjacent territories. Mainly wooden poles and branches wereused for their production and climbing techniques and equipment were applied fortheir installation. The nests are installed at a height not less than 12 m.Identification of regions where the nests were placed is on the basis of the speciesecological requirements, experience, results from radio-telemetry, recordedtemporary settlement areas, absence of breeding pairs and visual observations ofthe species. In total, three of all installed nests were used during the first year oftheir installation. Two nests were occupied by newly formed Imperial eagle pairswith successful breeding and hatching of chicks in only one of them. In the otherpair, we recorded occupation of breeding territory, copulation, input of nestmaterial and prey into the artificial nest but despite of that the pair did not manageto lay eggs. The third nest was occupied by a pair of Long-legged buzzard (Buteorufinus) that bred successfully during the first year. The good success rate ininstallation of artificial nests came as a result of the proper approach in selection ofsuitable regions and effective methodology for building and installation of nests. The results prove the need of artificial nests installation, with the aim to supportthe populations of Imperial eagles and other birds of prey.15:15-15:30КОНЦЕПЦИЯТА ЗА КУМУЛАТИВНИ ЕФЕКТИ ВЪРХУ ОКОЛНАТАСРЕДА И НЕЙНОТО ПРИЛОЖЕНИЕН. Bratanova-DonchevaCentral Laboratory of General Ecology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences,2 Gagarin Street, Sofia 1113, ecolab@ecolab.bas.bgThe concept of cumulative environmental effects is addressed within the broaderfield of integrated environmental management. Cumulative EnvironmentalAssessment (CEA) has been identified as the tool to provide direction inunderstanding impacts on future generations. The paper characterizes cumulativeeffects and their integration into existing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) processes. The known methods ofCEA are discussed together with existing gaps in knowledge. A brief overview ofCEA procedures and national practices, together with examples is presented.Suggestions for future development of the CEA concept and its applications inBulgaria are proposed.15:30-15:45Кафе паузаCoffee Break15:45-16:45Сесия “Биоразнообразие и устойчиво развитие”Съпредседатели: П.
