THE NEED, FOR PRAYER AND EFFORT 23who is late for school. If he were to sit down on theroadside to pray, he would be running against time. Ifhe wants to gain time, he must run and it is possiblethat even if he be late his teacher may forgive him becauseof the effort he has made to reach there in time. Tohave a ruling passion for an objective and to work hardfor achieving the same is the right type of prayer in thetruest sense of the word. Effort should be combined withprayer, for mere lip service to reach the goal will nothelp much. In all sincerity one should pray and indeedthe very striving for a thing with heart and soul is thegreatest prayer and is bound to fructify. In all trials andtribulations, one must try to rid himself of his wearinessand pray to God that He may help him in his endeavors.This is the only right attitude. If, in spite of this, youfail in your endeavors, then take that failure as comingfrom God for your good.62The Master-Power overhead is always aware of Hischildren's needs and yearnings and He acts in their bestinterests. All errors must be weeded out one by one, andwhen the child-disciple is doing his or her best to eradicatethese errors, all necessary help comes from within.This effort may take a long time, but it must and willcome about, and much earlier for those who are lovinglyand faithfully devoted to the Ma~ter.~"A mere confession of sins and shortcomings in prayerdoes not avail anything.
