Guru Nanak has beautifullysaid: It may be very well to worry about events andhappenings contrary to the divine plan (which, of course,can never be) : and what is destined will, of course, happenin spite of us. Learn the sacred technique of doingone thing at a time and that, too, with one-pointed,wholehearted, and undivided attention. In this way youwill accomplish much more in less time and with far lesseffort. So the Master tells us that all we need to care foris our spiritual perfection and take the routine round ofthe fated karmas as superbly beneficial for soul emancipation.In this way we will cultivate a state of perpetualresignation which will be helpful in holy meditation^.^^It is a happy thing to note that you have a dominantdesire to better the world in which you live, and that youworry about the human race and let your salvation takecare of itself through good works and clean living. It isa very noble idea. But the practical way of effectivelycarrying it out is to first grow into a beautiful flower yourselfand then to emit fragrance and sweetness to all, as amatter of course.65"Service before self" is a very good thing. But veryoften one does not even know the true significance ofservice and with all his well-meaning intentions actuallydoes disservice, instead of the much wanted service ofwhich we so glibly talk. Until we discover the true "Self"within us, we cannot visualize, much less actually realizein others the self-same Life-Impulse vibrating in the uni-
