Five thousand Sunday school childrenga<strong>the</strong>red in <strong>the</strong> Chipman grounds greeted H. R. H. with <strong>the</strong>national an<strong>the</strong>m, special words having been adapted to <strong>the</strong>music for <strong>the</strong> occasion. The procession <strong>the</strong>n retired and reformed.It was reviewed by <strong>the</strong> Prinxe from <strong>the</strong> porch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Court House on Sidney street. First came <strong>the</strong> band <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>63rd <strong>Regiment</strong>, <strong>the</strong>n Captain Pick's company <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> N. B. R. A.followed by <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r companies under Captains Durant,Adams, ^HuRD Peters, and McLauchlan. It is noteworthythat in <strong>the</strong> newspaper accounts <strong>of</strong> this event Captain Pick's isreferred to as <strong>the</strong> 'Prince <strong>of</strong> Wales' company, a designationwhich is still retained by No. i. After <strong>the</strong> artillery came o<strong>the</strong>rvolunteer companies to <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> about 350 men. Thetemperance bodies, firemen, cordwainers, millmen, shipbuildersand caulkers, founders, St. George's, St. Patrick's and St.Andrew's societies, mounted draymen and o<strong>the</strong>rs completed <strong>the</strong>pageant. The <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> volunteers, among o<strong>the</strong>rs, attended<strong>the</strong> levee in <strong>the</strong> Court House at which addresses were presented.The Prince was expected in Carleton in <strong>the</strong> afternoonbut owing to some misunderstanding as to arrangementsdid not arrive. Captain Adams' company, however, was on handand fired a salute. On Saturday morning <strong>the</strong> Prince went toRo<strong>the</strong>say by special train and was received by a salute from<strong>the</strong> artillery 'under Captain Durant, and a guard <strong>of</strong> honor from<strong>the</strong> artillery and rifle companies. Leaving Ro<strong>the</strong>say by <strong>the</strong>steamer Forest Queen <strong>the</strong> royal party arrived at Fredericton by6 o'clock and was received by a guard <strong>of</strong> honor from <strong>the</strong> militiacompanies including <strong>the</strong> artillery under Captains Berton andTravis.
