N. B. GARRISON ARTILLERY. I07tically no garrison gun drill done by the regiment. CaptainPeters' battery generally used the field pieces, but was thepioneer in the use of the heavier ordnance. The formation ofthe battery was accomplished under circumstances which neednot be narrated. Suffice it to say that a number of men fromCaptain Pick's battery withdrew and became members of thenew battery, and after approaching several other gentlemen,obtained B. Lester Peters as their commanding officer. Itwas a wise choice, and whatever may have been the feelingengendered at the time by what was termed the 'revolt,' itwas productive of good to the N. B. R. A., which for nearlyeight years had two splendid batteries whose efficiency was increasedby rivalry. While Captain Peters' battery existed, it, aswell as Captain Pick's, received deserved commendation from allquarters, military as well as civil, and the praise of one is nodisparagement of the other. The rivalry, not friendly at first,which existed between the organizations was productive of ahigher state of efficiency in both, and probably to-day the oldmembers of the Prince of Wales battery are as proud as thesurvivors of the ' Kid Glove battery ' of the successes of thelatter. With Captain Peters were associated Lieutenants R. R.Sneden, George E. Thomas and F. G. W. Lansdowne, allfrom Captain Pick's battery. The roll shows during its historythe names of scores of young men, many of whom have madea reputation in after life. There was much about the personalityof the captain to attract men. Tall, of commandingpresence, with a regal air which seems to belong almost exclusivelyto a generation that has passed away, he appeared tomen of the present day the embodiment of dignity and reserve.And yet his old comrades after pointing out the strictness ofthe discipline which he enforced, relate with fondness incidents^
