Turnbull.In November Lieutenant-Colonel Armstrong, Captain Seely,LieutenantsBotsford, Jones and Scammell attended a specialcourse at Quebec and obtained <strong>the</strong> necessary certificates toenable <strong>the</strong>ir rank to be confirmed. Surgeon Daniel also attended<strong>the</strong> course, and though <strong>the</strong> obtaining <strong>of</strong> a certificatewas unnecessary for his position, showed great pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in<strong>the</strong> examination and received one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> highest certificatesever taken by an <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> corps at <strong>the</strong> school. He isprobably <strong>the</strong> only regimental surgeon in Canada who has also<strong>the</strong> qualification <strong>of</strong> a combatant <strong>of</strong>ficer. At <strong>the</strong> close <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>year <strong>the</strong> lieutenant-colonel was appointed provincial A. D. C.to <strong>the</strong> Lieutenant-Governor.The formation <strong>of</strong> a band had already been made and on<strong>New</strong> Year's day, 1886, <strong>the</strong>y appeared wearing <strong>the</strong> new busbies.At <strong>the</strong> annual meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers it was decided to presenta gold medal for a skating competition to be held in <strong>the</strong>Lansdowne Rink. The medal was accordingly prepared andcompeted for. Paymaster Smith <strong>of</strong>fered a prize for shiftingordnance.This year it was decided to send ano<strong>the</strong>r artillery team tocompete atShoeburyness and <strong>the</strong> choice <strong>of</strong> commanding <strong>of</strong>ficerfell upon Lieutenant-Colonel Armstrong. The brigade wasalso represented by Sergeant Albert K. Pratt, <strong>of</strong> No. i battery,while Sergeant Good, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Woodstock field battery wasalso contributed by <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>.
