Lester Peters' company won <strong>the</strong> Prince <strong>of</strong>Wales cup. Gunner W. Morgan, <strong>of</strong> Captain Hurd Peters'and Gunner J. L. Bunting <strong>of</strong> Captain B. Lester Peters*,each won government silver medals. Gunner Jones was a son<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sheriff <strong>of</strong> Charlotte county. On <strong>the</strong> return <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> winnerfrom Fredericton he was royally received at Indiantown by <strong>the</strong>battery and with Captain Peters driven in a barouche to hishome.March loth, 1863, <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> wedding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prince <strong>of</strong>Wales, was observed by salutes fired by Captain Pick's batteryfrom King Square ; Captain Thomson's, from Queen SquareCaptain B. L. Peters,' Reed's Point ; Captain M. H. Peters,'flagstaff, Brooks Ward, Carleton ; Captain McLauchlan's, flagstaff,Guys Ward, Carleton ; Captain Hurd Peters,' Fort Howe.The usual salutes were fired on <strong>the</strong> Queen's birthday, and on24th June, Captain M. H. Peters' battery fired a salute at<strong>the</strong> laying <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> corner stone <strong>of</strong> Carleton City Hall.The Prince <strong>of</strong> Wales cup did not come to <strong>the</strong> artillery inthis year, but Gunner Jones won <strong>the</strong> second prize, a goldwatch, while in a local competion Gunner Bunting, <strong>of</strong>
