A.,1886.The corps was not destined to have the new major long inthe saddle, though while life lasts he will always be with themin spirit. In February of the next year he was appointed districtstorekeeper for the Province of New Brunswick, and hispleasant companionship with the corps came to an end so faras the militia lists can testify.At the annual meeting of officers on 14th March, 1887,a vote of thanks was passed to Blair Botsford, Esq., ofDorchester, N. B., for the gift of a valuable challenge cupwhich has since been competed for among the batteries bythe non-commissioned officers' answers to questions. In caseof a tie it is decided by the officers' answers to their questions.The officers also passed the following resolution upon the deathof the late Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel Peters which occurredon 5th February, 1887:Whereas, The late Lieutenant-Colonel Martin HunterPeters, lately in command of this corps, has departed thislife, having served with the militia volunteers of this provincefor a period of over forty years ; thereforeResolved, That the officers of the New Brunswick BrigadeGarrison Artillery do hereby place on record their feelings ofrespect and esteem for the late Lieutenant-Colonel Peters.Always willing to devote his time, attention and ability to theservice of his country, and in aid of his fellow men, he atlast lost his life in the commendable effort of saving his neighbors'property from destruction by fire ; and further
