Lieutenant-Colonel Maunsellwas commandant <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> camp ; Lieutenant D. G. Smithsupply <strong>of</strong>ficer, and 217 <strong>of</strong>ficers and men were under canvas.The force paraded to St. Paul's church on <strong>the</strong> 26th, and nextday Lieutenant-Governor Tilley and suite paid a 'visit to <strong>the</strong>camp. The usual competition was held and resulted in <strong>the</strong>winning by No. 10 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first prize; Nos. 2 and 3 tied for<strong>the</strong> second. No. 10 also won a cup presented by Lieutenant-Colonel Thurgar, and Quartermaster SergeantArmstrong <strong>of</strong>No. 3 won a silver medal presented by Lieutenant-ColonelThurgar, jr. During <strong>the</strong> camp Gunner Samuel McIntyre<strong>of</strong> No. 3 was taken ill, and his death in August caused sadnessto his comrades in <strong>the</strong>ir recollection <strong>of</strong> a pleasant camp.He was buried with military honors by his battery. The yearcloses with a more pleasant event in <strong>the</strong> marriage <strong>of</strong> CaptainCunard on 2nd December. The gallant captain entertained<strong>the</strong> men <strong>of</strong> No. 3 at supper on <strong>the</strong> evening preceding <strong>the</strong>ceremony and received a royal salute from his congratulatorygunners. During <strong>the</strong> year No. 5 battery, Woodstock, wasmade a field battery and ceased to be connected with <strong>the</strong>brigade. No. 9 battery, St. George, was transferred to <strong>the</strong>infantry <strong>of</strong> Charlotte county, and No. 8 at St. Stephen hadbecome non-effective.The year 1875 i^ practically without record except that No.3 battery with its usual enterprise held a soiree in <strong>the</strong> PortlandTemperance hall which closed with a dance, about ninety couplesbeing on <strong>the</strong> floor.
