The scene <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir embarkation at <strong>the</strong> I. C. R. stationis one that will never fade from <strong>the</strong> memories <strong>of</strong> those whowitnessed it. Though <strong>the</strong>ir services were not eventually requiredyet while immediate employment was expected our sistercorps displayed <strong>the</strong> readiness to face danger in <strong>the</strong> discharge<strong>of</strong> duty which is characteristic <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> true British soldier.Though <strong>the</strong> artillery did not participate in <strong>the</strong> conflict yetCaptain Harrison, who lately commanded No. 3 company,saw service in <strong>the</strong> Queen's Own Rifles, and Corporal Richardson,who is referred to elsewhere, served in " A " battery.In September busbies were adopted as <strong>the</strong> brigade headdressreplacing <strong>the</strong> helmets and were provided at regimentalexpense. In <strong>the</strong> same month No. 5 battery, at <strong>the</strong> Orangehall, Fairville, presented <strong>the</strong>ir retiring captain, Thomas W.Lander, with an address and gold headed ebony cane.On October 4th a church parade was held at St. Paul'schurch, <strong>the</strong> sermon being preached by Rev. Mr. Walker.The next day <strong>the</strong> corps was inspected by Lieutenant-ColonelIrwin whose report says :*Their improvement since last yearis most marked, and <strong>the</strong> interest shown by <strong>of</strong>ficers and noncommissioned<strong>of</strong>ficers in acquiring a knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir dutiespromises well for increased efficiency in <strong>the</strong> future.'The following was <strong>the</strong> establishment <strong>of</strong> battery <strong>of</strong>ficers at <strong>the</strong>inspection :No. I— Captain^ Geo.
