6 SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION6.1 IntroductionThis section contains descriptions <strong>and</strong> operating instructions for thegyrocopter <strong>and</strong> its systems.Instructions for the use of auxiliary equipment can be found in theoperating manual of the equipment´s manufacturer.6.2 Gyrocopter descriptionG 4-2 is a gyrocopter with 2 seats in t<strong>and</strong>em configuration. The modelLiberty is designed for operation with an open cabin. The cabin can beenclosed with an optional kit. The model Princess is designed foroperation with an enclosed cabin. The cabin can be converted with anoptional kit for open operation. The light canopy is made of carbon fibercomposite <strong>and</strong> opens around hinges on the left side of the cabin. It islockable <strong>and</strong> may optionally be equipped with removable cabin glass.Consequently the gyrocopter can be flown with open- or closed cabin.The cabin is also made of carbon fiber composite.The model Liberty is equipped with a simple windshield made of PC.The model Princess is equipped with an integrated windshield in thecanopy made of formed, unbreakable PMMA-material.The engine cowling consists of 6 parts made of reinforced carbon fiber.The upper parts of the cowling are hinged for easy access to the engine<strong>and</strong> accessories.The gyrocopters frame is made of special stainless steel <strong>and</strong> is weldedunder gas-shield.The empennage structure is made of carbon fiber composite.The power plant is attached to the back of the mast via a steel tube ring<strong>and</strong> 4 vibration dampeners.The rotor blades are made of extruded aluminum.The main gear strut is made of GFC/CFC for flexibility.The nose wheel suspension consists of a stainless steel fork <strong>and</strong> axles,which are welded <strong>and</strong> mounted steerable inside a steel guide at thefront edge of the frame.The fuel tank is made of rubber fabric in an anti-explosive construction.<strong>Flight</strong> <strong>and</strong> operation manual G 4-2 <strong>Rev</strong>ision <strong>3.0</strong> – 09.04.2013 58
6.3 Steering systemsRudder steeringThe rudder controls are conventional pedals <strong>and</strong> steel wires. A set ofpedals (adjustable for more comfort) in the nose of the cabin areconnected to the nose wheel control via rods. The steel wires controllingthe rudder areattached to the nosewheel controls <strong>and</strong>lead back to therudder inside theframe.Optionally a secondset of pedals may beinstalled for the copilotwhich is alsoconnected to the setof pedals in the frontvia rods. This way therudder can becontrolled from bothseats.Throttle <strong>and</strong> wheel brake control unitThe throttle <strong>and</strong> the choke are on the left side of the pilot’s seat. Thethrottle lever is connected to thecarburetors via cable controls, wherebythe back position is idle <strong>and</strong> theforward position is full power.An engine cold start requires chokecontrol. For this purpose the chokelever must be pulled all the way back(towards the throttle) <strong>and</strong> the throttle issat to idle. After starting the engine ashort warm up phase should followbefore returning the chocke lever allthe way to the forward position.Optionally a throttle lever can be mounted left of the co-pilot’s seat <strong>and</strong>is then connected to the front throttle lever via rods.<strong>Flight</strong> <strong>and</strong> operation manual G 4-2 <strong>Rev</strong>ision <strong>3.0</strong> – 09.04.2013 59
