11 HANDLING, MAINTENANCE AND CAREThis section contains recommendations of the manufacturer about thecorrect h<strong>and</strong>ling of the gyrocopter on the ground <strong>and</strong> aboutmaintenance <strong>and</strong> care which must be performed to retain theperformance <strong>and</strong> reliability of the gyrocopter. The regular care <strong>and</strong>cleanliness of the powertrain, propeller, rotor system, undercarriage,control systems <strong>and</strong> cowling is the first prerequisite for operating safety.It is to be performed in adapted intervals depending on weatherconditions <strong>and</strong> use.To avoid the gyrocopter from getting dusty, it is recommended to coverit with the optional tarp. If no hangar is available, it is recommended tostore the gyrocopter in the optional trailer. Openings to the engine, fuelsystem <strong>and</strong> Pitot tube should be closed off after flights (insects, birds<strong>and</strong> such).Grime on the gyrocopter may be removed by clean water <strong>and</strong>eventually with cleaning additives.Attention: Do not use fuel or solvents under no condition to cleanthe glass. The used materials (PMMA <strong>and</strong> Polycarbonate) will beRUINED if this is used!The parking place of the gyrocopter should be dry <strong>and</strong> protected fromsunlight <strong>and</strong> wind. If the gyrocopter is constantly stored outdoors <strong>and</strong> isexposed to sun, wind <strong>and</strong> rain it will age <strong>and</strong> corrode quickly.11.1 Maintenance instructionsAll m<strong>and</strong>atory inspections (e.g. annual inspections) required by low inthe country where the gyrocopter is registered must be done <strong>and</strong>documented in time. All other checks <strong>and</strong> maintenance works are to beperformed as instructed in the maintenance manual by authorizedaviation service shops.Note: If the maintenance instructions aremanufacturer warranties are void!not fulfilled, all<strong>Flight</strong> <strong>and</strong> operation manual G 4-2 <strong>Rev</strong>ision <strong>3.0</strong> – 09.04.2013 96
11.1.1 Frame, propeller <strong>and</strong> rotorAt 500 hours, the frame, propeller <strong>and</strong> rotor must be inspected by themanufacturer or an authorized workshop. The necessary maintenancework through the course of the TBO is non-destructive <strong>and</strong> will notnecessarily lead to exchange of the parts if no damages are found.11.1.2 EngineThe power plant must be maintained with the procedures <strong>and</strong> intervalsas written in the engine’s manual. A complete overhaul (TBO) must becarried out at 2000 hours (at the latest) as instructed by the engine’smanufacturer.11.1.3 Daily checkThe daily check must be done prior to every flight (or the first flight ofthe day if several flights are made) as instructed in section 3.3.11.1.4 25 hour checkAs instructed by the engine’s <strong>and</strong> propeller’s manufacturers, a check ofthese parts is to be carried out after every 25 hours.To keep the gyrocopter manufacturer’s warranty, the maintenance mustbe done by an authorized workshop <strong>and</strong> be loged into the maintenancemanual.11.1.5 50 hour checkAs instructed by the engine manufacturer, a check of the powerplant isto be carried out every 50 hours.To keep the gyrocopter manufacturer’s warranty, the maintenance mustbe done by an authorized workshop <strong>and</strong> be loged into the maintenancemanual.11.1.6 100 hour checkAs instructed by the engine’s <strong>and</strong> propeller’s manufacturers, a check ofthese parts is to be carried out every 100 hours.To keep the gyrocopter manufacturer’s warranty, the maintenance mustbe done by an authorized workshop <strong>and</strong> be loged into the maintenancemanual.<strong>Flight</strong> <strong>and</strong> operation manual G 4-2 <strong>Rev</strong>ision <strong>3.0</strong> – 09.04.2013 97
