11.4 Maintenance <strong>and</strong> careThe regular care <strong>and</strong> cleaning the power plant, propeller, rotor system, control systems <strong>and</strong> frame are important for flight safety. This must beexecuted in intervals depending on weather <strong>and</strong> use. The rotor systemis to be cleaned after every flight. Grime on the rotor may be removedby clear water <strong>and</strong> eventually with cleaning additives. To do so, letgrime soak <strong>and</strong> then flush with plenty of clear water.Special care must be taken when cleaning glass. Do not use fuel, solvents or insect remover to clean glass surfaces under anycircumstances. The unbreakable material will develop small cracks <strong>and</strong>will be ruined. After cleaning with water, make sure all wet parts can dry easily.11.5 Winter operationThe cooling system for the cylinder heads of the engine is filled with awater/anti-freeze mixture which will not freeze in temperatures as low as-18°C. Prior to temperatures reaching freezing levels the anti-freezemixture must be analyzed to confirm the freezing level. If thetemperature drops below the indicated value, the anti-freeze mixturemust either be drained, or exchanged with pure anti-freeze to guaranteethat the liquid will not freeze. Due to aging <strong>and</strong> the dropping anticorrosiveproperties, the coolant must be exchanged every 2 years.Further information may be found in the engine’s manual.During winter operation the operating temperatures for the cylinderheads are most likely not reached. This can be compensated for bycovering a part of the radiator. The oil temperature, in turn, will most probably reach the required 80°Cbecause a thermostat is built into the oil circuit. The Bowden cables are to be checked for icing <strong>and</strong> proper daily wettingwith oil.<strong>Flight</strong> <strong>and</strong> operation manual G 4-2 <strong>Rev</strong>ision <strong>3.0</strong> – 09.04.2013 99
