Chapter 68—The Future[354]At <strong>the</strong> transfiguration, Jesus was glorified by His Fa<strong>the</strong>r. We hearHim say: “Now is <strong>the</strong> Son of man glorified, and God is glorified inHim.” Thus be<strong>for</strong>e His betrayal and crucifixion He was streng<strong>the</strong>ned<strong>for</strong> His last dreadful sufferings. As <strong>the</strong> members of <strong>the</strong> body of Christapproach <strong>the</strong> period of <strong>the</strong>ir last conflict, “<strong>the</strong> time of Jacob’s trouble,”<strong>the</strong>y will grow up into Christ, and will partake largely of His spirit. As<strong>the</strong> third message swells to a loud cry, and as great power and gloryattend <strong>the</strong> closing work, <strong>the</strong> faithful people of God will partake of thatglory. It is <strong>the</strong> latter rain which revives and streng<strong>the</strong>ns <strong>the</strong>m to passthrough <strong>the</strong> time of trouble. Their faces will shine with <strong>the</strong> glory ofthat light which attends <strong>the</strong> third angel.I saw that God will in a wonderful manner preserve His peoplethrough <strong>the</strong> time of trouble. As Jesus poured out His soul in agonyin <strong>the</strong> garden, <strong>the</strong>y will earnestly cry and agonize day and night <strong>for</strong>deliverance. The decree will go <strong>for</strong>th that <strong>the</strong>y must disregard <strong>the</strong>Sabbath of <strong>the</strong> fourth commandment, and honor <strong>the</strong> first day, or lose<strong>the</strong>ir lives; but <strong>the</strong>y will not yield, and trample under <strong>the</strong>ir feet <strong>the</strong>Sabbath of <strong>the</strong> Lord, and honor an institution of papacy. Satan’s hostand wicked men will surround <strong>the</strong>m, and exult over <strong>the</strong>m, because<strong>the</strong>re will seem to be no way of escape <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>m. But in <strong>the</strong> midstof <strong>the</strong>ir revelry and triumph, <strong>the</strong>re is heard peal upon peal of <strong>the</strong>loudest thunder. The heavens have ga<strong>the</strong>red blackness, and are onlyilluminated by <strong>the</strong> blazing light and terrible glory from heaven, as Godutters His voice from His holy habitation.The foundations of <strong>the</strong> earth shake; buildings totter and fall with aterrible crash. The sea boils like a pot, and <strong>the</strong> whole earth is in terriblecommotion. The captivity of <strong>the</strong> righteous is turned, and with sweetand solemn whisperings <strong>the</strong>y say to one ano<strong>the</strong>r: “We are delivered.It is <strong>the</strong> voice of God.” With solemn awe <strong>the</strong>y listen to <strong>the</strong> words of<strong>the</strong> voice. The wicked hear, but understand not <strong>the</strong> words of <strong>the</strong> voiceof God. They fear and tremble, while <strong>the</strong> saints rejoice. Satan andhis angels, and wicked men, who had been exulting that <strong>the</strong> people of334
