All things pertaining to <strong>the</strong> mostholy place were to be looked upon with reverence.The travels of <strong>the</strong> children of Israel are faithfully described; <strong>the</strong>deliverance which <strong>the</strong> Lord wrought <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>ir perfect organizationand special order, <strong>the</strong>ir sin in murmuring against Moses and thusagainst God, <strong>the</strong>ir transgressions, <strong>the</strong>ir rebellions, <strong>the</strong>ir punishments,<strong>the</strong>ir carcasses strewn in <strong>the</strong> wilderness because of <strong>the</strong>ir unwillingnessto submit to God’s wise arrangements—this faithful picture is hung upbe<strong>for</strong>e us as a warning lest we follow <strong>the</strong>ir example of disobedienceand fall like <strong>the</strong>m.“But with many of <strong>the</strong>m God was not well pleased: <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>y wereoverthrown in <strong>the</strong> wilderness. Now <strong>the</strong>se things were our examples,to <strong>the</strong> intent we should not lust after evil things, as <strong>the</strong>y also lusted.Nei<strong>the</strong>r be ye idolaters, as were some of <strong>the</strong>m; as it is written, Thepeople sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Nei<strong>the</strong>r let uscommit <strong>for</strong>nication, as some of <strong>the</strong>m committed, and fell in one daythree and twenty thousand. Nei<strong>the</strong>r let us tempt Christ, as some of <strong>the</strong>malso tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Nei<strong>the</strong>r murmur ye, assome of <strong>the</strong>m also murmured, and were destroyed of <strong>the</strong> destroyer.Now all <strong>the</strong>se things happened unto <strong>the</strong>m <strong>for</strong> ensamples: and <strong>the</strong>yare written <strong>for</strong> our admonition, upon whom <strong>the</strong> ends of <strong>the</strong> world arecome. Where<strong>for</strong>e let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest hefall.” Has God changed from a God of order? No; He is <strong>the</strong> same in<strong>the</strong> present dispensation as in <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>mer. Paul says: “God is not <strong>the</strong>author of confusion, but of peace.” He is as particular now as <strong>the</strong>n.And He designs that we should learn lessons of order and organizationfrom <strong>the</strong> perfect order instituted in <strong>the</strong> days of Moses <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefitof <strong>the</strong> children of Israel.
