ِِ182 Backbiting – A Cancer in our Societyme crazy to believe that all people in this world are selfish and disloyal and that I shouldcommit suicide, but not alone. I had decided that I would drive the bus full of people, atfull speed, into a deep ravine killing all the passengers along with me. During that time, Iwas blessed with the opportunity to take a bus to the congregation (at Ṣaḥrā-e-Madīnaĥ,Multan). I felt as if the Bayān was specifically designed for me. It was entitled ‘Khūdkushīkā ‘Ilāj’. After hearing the Bayān I was overcome by the fear of Allah ‏.عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ I completelyunderstood that suicide does not relieve the miseries rather it puts one into an intensemisery. I repented wholeheartedly from my sins. After finding out the name of the preacherwho delivered the Bayān, I have come here to get you to make Du’ā for me. Thereafter,supplication was made for him and after making several good intentions aboutconsistently offering Ṣalāĥ, attending weekly Ijtimā’ regularly and travelling with theMadanī Qāfilaĥ, he left weeping.Is suicide a true relief?On page 404 of Bayānāt-e-‘Aṭṭāriyyaĥ, Volume 2 [the 472-page publication of Maktabatul-Madīnaĥ,the publishing department of Dawat-e-Islami], it is relayed: Those whocommit suicide are probably of the viewpoint that it would bring an end to all theirproblems; but, instead of providing any relief, it invokes the wrath of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ forthem. By Allah ‏!عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ The torment for suicide would be unbearable.Torment in the HellfireIt is narrated in a Ḥadīš, ‘One, who commits suicide, will be tormented with the sametool with which he killed himself.’ (Ṣaḥīḥ Bukhārī, vol. 4, pp. 289, Ḥadīš 6652)Torment with the same weaponتَعَالىٰ‏ عَنْهُ‏ Sayyidunā Šābit Bin Ḍaḥḥākَ narrated that the Beloved and Blessed Prophet ر‎5َ‎ االلهُ‏said, ‘Whoever killed himself with a weapon of iron, he will be tormented صَ‏ َّ! االلهُ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َلَيْهِ‏ وَاٰلِهٖ‏ وَسَلَّمwith the same weapon in the Hellfire.’ (Ṣaḥīḥ Bukhārī, vol. 1, pp. 459, Ḥadīš 1363)Torment of throttlingSayyidunā Abū Ĥurayraĥ ر‎5َ‎ االلهُ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ عَنْهُ‏ َ narrated that the Prophet of Raḥmaĥ, the Intercessorof Ummaĥ, the Owner of Jannaĥ صَ‏ َّ! االلهُ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َلَيْهِ‏ وَاٰلِهٖ‏ وَسَلَّم said, ‘He, who throttled himself, shall
