َ220 <strong>Backbiting</strong> – A Cancer in our SocietyThe first antidoteElaboration of Ten Antidotes of <strong>Backbiting</strong>You should be alone or in good companyAfter completing your religious duties and worldly chores, you should either remainaloof or seek good company of those who are solemnly following the Sunnaĥ and arepracticing <strong><strong>Islami</strong>c</strong> brothers who instil the fear of Allah عَزَّ‏ وَجَلَّ‏ in your heart, inspire you toتَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َلَيْهِ‏ وَاٰلِهٖ‏ وَسَلَّم develop devotion for the Prophetُidentify the external decadence and ‏;صَ‏ َّ! االلهinternal diseases and advise you on their possible antidotes and remedies. Here are twosayings of the Noble Prophet صَ‏ َّ! االلهُ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َلَيْهِ‏ وَاٰلِهٖ‏ وَسَلَّم in regards to adopting good company:1. A good companion is the one who helps you when you remember Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ andreminds you when you forget. (Al-Ikhwān li-Ibn Abid Dunyā, Raqm 42)2. A good companion is the one whose sight reminds you of Allah ‏,عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ hisconversation increases in your actions, and his actions remind you of the Hereafter.’(Shu’ab-ul-Īmān, vol. 7, pp. 57, Ḥadīš 9446)Y َ ُa ٰ َ< ٰ Mََُ ا‎J K َ Lَ َ اZ‏ۡ‏2ۡا < ِbۡ]^LَBlessings of saying Āmīn on the supplication of a righteousBeing in the company of the righteous at times becomes the cause of forgiveness. Hence,Sayyidunā Shaykh Jalāluddīn Suyūṭī Shafi’ī عَلَيْهِ‏ رَحْمَةُ‏ اللهِ‏ الۡ‏ قَوِی relays the following story in hisbook Sharḥ-uṣ-Ṣudūr: Sayyidunā Yazīd Bin Ĥārūn رَحمْ‏ ‏َةُ‏ االلهِ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َلَيْه has stated, ‘I saw SayyidunāAbū Isḥāq Muhammad Bin Yazīd Wāsiṭī عَلَيْهِ‏ رَحْمَةُ‏ اللهِ‏ الۡ‏ قَوِی in a dream. I asked him, ‘How didAllah عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ treat you?’ He replied, ‘He forgave me.’ Then I asked, ‘What was the cause ofقَوِی your forgiveness?’ He replied, ‘One Friday Sayyidunā Abū ‘Amr Baṣrīto visit us and he made Du’ā upon which we said Āmīn. Hence, I was forgiven.’ (Sharḥ-uṣ-Ṣudūr, pp. 282) (Kitāb-ul-Manāmāt ma’ Mawsū’aĥ Ibn Abid Dunyā, vol. 3, pp. 156, Raqm 337)came عَلَيْهِ‏ رَحْمَةُ‏ اللهِ‏ الۡ‏Dear <strong><strong>Islami</strong>c</strong> brothers! We come to learn that to be a part of the Du’ā of the righteouspeople is virtuous. Therefore, attend the Du’ā session in the Sunnaĥ-inspiring Ijtimā’
