‏ِه ‏َم ‏ُةِ224 Backbiting – A Cancer in our Societywhich will be worse off until you meet your Allah ‏.عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ I have heard this from the HolyProphet َّ! االلهُ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َلَيْهِ‏ وَاٰلِهٖ‏ وَسَلَّم ‏’.صَ‏ (Ṣaḥīḥ Bukhārī, vol. 4, pp. 433, Ḥadīš 7068)The renowned exegetist of the Quran, Ḥakīm-ul-Ummat, Shaykh Muftī Aḥmad YārKhān نَّان has expounded on this Ḥadīš, ‘As the time goes further and furtherfrom the [time of the] Prophet َّ! االلهُ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َلَيْهِ‏ وَاٰلِهٖ‏ وَسَلَّم ‏;صَ‏ oppression and discord will continue torise. Any era is worse than the previous one when it comes to the matters of religion.Some eras have a particular sin prevalent, while at other times, other sins are on a rise.’ال ْ حَ الل عَ‏ لَيْهِ‏ رَ‏ ‏ْح(Mirāt-ul-Manājīḥ, vol. 7, pp. 202)Everyone doesn’t backbiteDear Islamic brothers! Everyone can realize that just like many other degenerate evilsare prevalent in our society today, then why would backbiting lag behind? However,prevalence does not mean every person is committing this sin. The world is not bereft ofthe righteous bondmen of Allah ‏.عَزَّوَجَلَّ‏ We should seek the blessings by acquiring thecompany of these truly pious individuals. However, one should refrain from the companyof those people who only seem righteous from the outset, but are submerged in thewicked sins of backbiting, tale-baring, ill-suspecting and laying false accusations etc. It isa religious necessity to stay away from such people.On page 164 of Baĥār-e-Sharī’at, Volume 16 [the 312-page publication of Maktaba-tul-Madīnaĥ, the publishing department of Dawat-e-Islami], it is cited: ‘Imrān Bin Ḥiṭṭānتَعَالىٰ‏ عَنْهُ‏ narrated: I visited Sayyidunā Abū Żar Ghifārīَ and saw him sitting alone ر‎5َ‎ االلهُ‏wearing a black shawl in the Masjid. I asked him, ‘Why this solitude?’ He replied, ‘I haveheard the Merciful Prophet صَ‏ َّ! ال لَيْهِ‏ وَاٰلِهٖ‏ وَسَلَّم saying, ‘Solitude is better than a wickedcompanion and a righteous companion is better than solitude; to say something good isbetter than silence and silence is better than saying something bad.’ (Shu’ab-ul-Īmān, vol. 4,pp. 256, Ḥadīš 4993) لهُ‏ تَعَالىٰ‏ ‏َعḤāl ĥamārā kaysā zabūn ĥay aur woĥ kaysā aur wo kyūn ĥayُSab ĥay tum per rawshan Shaĥā ََ! ۡ َ " و Oَ َا‎J K L َHow devilish is our state?
