Participant N<br />

Participant N was a Certificate in Nursing student. She was new at Unitec,<br />

doing her 1 st year. She came to the library every day in the afternoon and got<br />

on WLANs for at least one hour. E-learning was quite important for her, she<br />

said. If she had spare time, she also surfed the Internet for a while.<br />

Participant BC<br />

Participant BC was a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Computing student. He was doing his 2 nd<br />

year <strong>of</strong> the course. BC studied very hard. He spent all his time in school and<br />

used WLANs for over 7 hours a day. Although his classes were all in Mt.<br />

Albert Campus, Waitakere Campus was much closer to his home. So if he<br />

wanted to study at school, he would come to Waitakere Campus on the day he<br />

did not have any classes. Usually, BC studied in the library. But he also<br />

studied in the cafeteria area. He said he liked to sit in different<br />

environments.<br />

Participant B<br />

Participant B was a Master <strong>of</strong> Business student. He had been <strong>of</strong>f school for<br />

one semester but he always came to school and spent more than six hours on<br />

<strong>campus</strong>. He said he was trying to find a full time job and that was why he did<br />

not take any class for this semester but he would go back to class next<br />

semester. He really enjoyed staying at school with friends so he came to<br />

school every day. B was only comfortable in the graduate centre so the<br />

interview took place in the graduate centre. B was easygoing, and some<br />

students came to say hello to him during the interview. He said he made a lot<br />

<strong>of</strong> friends there. He did research, surfed Internet and chatted with friends<br />

over the Internet when he was in the graduate centre.<br />

Participant P<br />

Participant P was a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency student and he was in his 4 th<br />

year <strong>of</strong> the course. P came to <strong>campus</strong> every day at 9 o’clock in the morning<br />

either to the library or building 76. P usually did some research, discussions<br />
