Remove the remaining nut, bolt, and washers from the pump half of the coupling guard.It is not necessary to remove the end plate from the pump side of the bearing housing. You can accessthe bearing-housing tap bolts without removing this end plate if maintenance of internal pump partsis necessary.7. Commissioning, Startup, Operation, and Shutdown (Continued)Check the rotationWARNING:• Operating the pump in reverse rotation can result in the contact of metal parts, heat generation, andbreach of containment.• Always disconnect and lock out power to the driver before you perform any installation ormaintenance tasks. Failure to disconnect and lock out driver power will result in serious physicalinjury.1. Lock out power to the driver.2. Make sure that the coupling hubs are fastened securely to the shafts.3. Make sure that the coupling spacer is removed.The pump ships with the coupling spacer removed.4. Unlock power to the driver.5. Make sure that everyone is clear, and then jog the driver long enough to determine that the directionof rotation corresponds to the arrow on the bearing housing, or close-coupled frame.6. Lock out power to the driver.Impeller-clearance checkThe impeller-clearance check ensures the following:Impeller clearances (3796)• The pump turns freely.• The pump operates at optimal efficiency for long equipment life and low energy consumption.NOTICE: Do not set the maximum impeller setting to more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) greater than thevalues in this table. Doing so may result in a significant decrease in performance.WARNING: For pumpage temperatures greater than 200°F (93°C), you must increase the cold (ambient)setting according to this table. Doing so prevents the impeller from contacting the casing due todifferential expansion from the higher operating temperatures.
