Maintenance (Continued)Regrease the grease-lubricated bearingsNOTICE:Make sure that the grease container, the greasing device, and the fittings are clean. Failure to do this canresult in impurities entering the bearing housing when you regrease the bearings.1931131. Wipe dirt from the grease fittings.2. Remove the two grease-relief plugs from the bottom of the frame.3. Fill both of the grease cavities through the fittings with a recommended grease until the fresh greasecomes out of the relief holes.4. Make sure that the frame seals are seated in the bearing housing.If they are not, press them in place with the drains located at the bottom.5. Reinstall the grease-relief plugs.6. Wipe off any excess grease.7. Recheck the alignment.The bearing temperature usually rises after you regrease due to an excess supply of grease. Temperaturesreturn to normal in about two to four operating hours as the pump runs and purges the excess greasefrom the bearings.Lubricating-grease requirementsPrecautionsNOTICE:• Never mix greases of different consistencies (NLGI 1 or 3 with NLGI 2) or with different thickeners.For example, never mix a lithium-based grease with a polyurea-based grease. Doing so may result indecreased performance.• Remove the bearings and old grease if you need to change the grease type or consistency. Flush out the bearings and bearing frame with a light oil to remove contaminants.During flushing, make sure to rotate the shaft slowly by hand.2. Flush the bearing housing with the proper lubricating oil to ensure oil quality after cleaning.Shaft seal maintenanceMechanical-seal maintenanceWARNING:The mechanical seal used in an Ex-classified environment must be properly certified. Prior to startup,make sure that all areas that could leak pumped fluid to the work environment are closed.CAUTION:Never operate the pump without liquid supplied to mechanical seal. If you run a mechanical seal dry, evenfor a few seconds, this can cause seal damage. Physical injury can occur if a mechanical seal fails.Reference drawingThe manufacturer supplies a reference drawing with the data package. Keep this drawing for future usewhen you perform maintenance and seal adjustments. The seal drawing specifies the required flush fluidand attachment points.Before you start the pumpCheck the seal and all flush piping.Mechanical seal lifeThe life of a mechanical seal depends on the cleanliness of the pumped fluid.
