MALAVÉ, Ligia Rosa. Transformational Leadership and TechnologicalManagement. Doctoral Dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of therequirements for the Degree of Doctor of Human Sciences. University of Zulia,College of Humanities and Education. Graduate Studies Division. DoctoralProgram in Human Sciences. Maracaibo, Venezuela 2008, 225 pp.AbstractKnowledge construction based on folk inventors’ interconnected meanings betweentransformational leadership and technological management was this doctoraldissertation main research purpose. For this qualitative research, a phenomenologyrational was assumed. Accordingly, a phenomena-descriptive perspective (Husserl1992, Moustakas 1994) was used, as well as Ricouer’s hermeneutic arc (2001, 2006).Knowledge construction followed the research data emerging logic. Therefore, thisprocess was called Interconnected moments, this was used for organizing the wholedocument in phases. Such moments were called as: Starting Moment, Data collection, phenomenological reduction, imaginative reduction and data analyses, and themetaphor application tool, this was used as a strategy for hermeneutic analysis.Methodologically, data descriptions were performed by using textual, textural, andstructural categories from which, essences or synthesis analytical categories was built.Meaning comprehension was achieved by using several phenomenological categories, such as, intentionality, intersubjetivity, temporality, as well as the application of metaphorand the hermeneutic arc. Transformational leadership and technology managementmeanings, especially, those related to leadership are described and understood from theintersubjectivity analytical category, by which the human nature of this phenomenon isrevealed. A group of five (05) folk inventors participated in this research. Severalfindings revealed that: (1) Technology was understood as ways of doing and buildingand it is very much intricate to people’s needs, such as, food and housing, to severalvalues, such as, respect to others, life, dignity of living, surviving and education; all thesemeanings are understood within inventor’s everyday life. (2) Transformationalleadership was understood from common knowledge inspiration and from inventionaccording to some needs. (3) Technology management was understood according topeople and communities’ needs. Latter, based on the overall research and its findings, aEducational technology vision was built, which is one of the research contribution toscience. The vision is supported on the inventive ability, human needs, respect for lifeand ecology. Finally, it was concluded that technology, transformational leadership, andtechnology management intimate interconnected meanings emerged from theexperiences of doing technology within folk inventors’ everyday life.xii
