College <strong>of</strong> Humanities and Social Science: one-third <strong>of</strong> the total credits <strong>for</strong> the<br />
award, i.e. 20 credits <strong>for</strong> a certificate; 40 credits <strong>for</strong> a diploma; and 60 credits <strong>for</strong> a<br />
master’s;<br />
College <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Veterinary Medicine: one-third <strong>of</strong> the total credits <strong>for</strong> the<br />
award, i.e. 20 credits <strong>for</strong> a certificate; 40 credits <strong>for</strong> a diploma; and 60 credits <strong>for</strong> a<br />
master’s; and<br />
College <strong>of</strong> Science and Engineering: a maximum <strong>of</strong> 40 credits <strong>for</strong> a master’s; no RPL<br />
credit are awarded <strong>for</strong> certificate or diplomas.<br />
18. Be<strong>for</strong>e approval is granted the College must be satisfied that the learning to be<br />
recognised provides an adequate basis <strong>for</strong> the programme or courses as set out in the<br />

19. <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Edinburgh</strong> courses which have a substantial curriculum overlap with<br />
any <strong>of</strong> the courses that contributed to a student’s admission on the basis <strong>of</strong> RPL will not<br />
count towards the student’s degree programme.<br />
20. Credit points awarded <strong>for</strong> entry with RPL will not contribute to a student’s<br />
progression within their <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Edinburgh</strong> study.<br />
Attending courses not <strong>for</strong> credit<br />
21. Students may attend courses on a class-only basis (i.e. not <strong>for</strong> credit), with the<br />
approval <strong>of</strong> the Programme Director and, where relevant, the supervisor. Decisions will be<br />
based on the overall load (credit and non-credit bearing) on the student in the year. The<br />
additional credits must not be more than one-third <strong>of</strong> the scheduled number <strong>of</strong> credits <strong>for</strong><br />
the year.<br />
Credit Award<br />
22. A student who has previously submitted a body <strong>of</strong> work <strong>for</strong> one course must not<br />
submit the same work to attempt to achieve academic credit through another course.<br />
23. A student cannot, except under recognition <strong>of</strong> prior learning or application <strong>for</strong><br />
associated postgraduate diploma or masters, achieve an award comprising academic credit<br />
that contributed (or will contribute) to another award.<br />
Transfer to another Programme<br />
24. College may permit programme transfer in appropriate circumstances. When such<br />
permission is granted, the student shall, in addition to satisfying the requirements <strong>for</strong> the<br />
degree to which transfer is made, pursue such further courses <strong>of</strong> study as the College may<br />
require.<br />
Attendance and Participation<br />
25. Students must attend and participate as required in all aspects <strong>of</strong> their programme<br />
<strong>of</strong> study. This includes being available <strong>for</strong> assessment, meeting programme directors and<br />
