<strong>Judicial</strong> <strong>System</strong> in Saudi Arabia<br />

of Administrative Work in Sharia Circuits and as well some<br />

sections of the Concentration of the Responsibilities of the<br />

Sharia Judiciary Law. On 14/07/1422H (corresponding<br />

to 02/10/2001) the Criminal Procedure Law was issued<br />

comprising two hundred and twenty five sections providing<br />

for investigation, trial and ways to contest penal rulings,<br />

maintaining the sanctity of the people and their homes and<br />

offices and vehicles, protecting the media and prohibiting<br />

censorship except for compelling reasons. (1)<br />

The Hierarchy of Courts:<br />

After a month and a half from the unification of the<br />

Kingdom, a judiciary presidency was established in the<br />

Western Region in Mecca on 24/07/1344H (corresponding<br />

to 07/02/1926), to oversee the judiciary of Hejaz courts<br />

and adjacent districts. With respect to Najd and its adjacent<br />

areas, single judges were appointed in big cities to determine<br />

all types of cases brought before them. On 21/02/1346H<br />

(corresponding to 20/08/1927) a court for expedient matters<br />

was formed together with a Major Sharia Court. In the year<br />

1375H (corresponding to 1955) two presidencies of the<br />

judiciary were established:<br />

1) Presidency of the Judiciary in the Western Region with<br />

authority over the Northern Province and the regions of<br />

Aseer and Jizan; it included an appeal body supervising a<br />

group of courts and notaries.<br />
