<strong>Judicial</strong> <strong>System</strong> in Saudi Arabia<br />

Commentators from outside Saudi Arabia may see<br />

conflict in judicial rulings; however, such is not accurate.<br />

There are differences between rulings similar to that exist<br />

in all countries. For that reason, the Supreme Court in the<br />

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia seeks to find judicial principles<br />

to be applied to cases. This is likely to mitigate variances<br />

between judicial rulings.<br />

It is worth to mention that there is a degree of blurriness<br />

as to the position of the specialized criminal court – it is<br />

supposed to be within the hierarchy of the criminal courts.<br />

Trust in the judicial system necessitates that importance. As<br />

well, publicity is important to guarantee fair trial.<br />

It is important to create an accurate mechanism for<br />

selection of judges, inspecting their work and evaluate their<br />

performance. Although there is a system in place, however, it<br />

needs improvement and development. Publication of rulings<br />

is also very important. The Ministry of Justice starts to<br />

publish judicial rulings, but such efforts must be sustained.<br />

Despite the achievements of the Ministry of Justice and<br />

the disclosure of information with respect to many important<br />

projects, still there is a lack of transparency regarding<br />

financial matters, projects budgets and expansion and<br />

developments plans.<br />

One of the most important criticisms leveled against<br />

the judiciary is the continuity of the overlapping between<br />

the executive power and the judicial power by delaying<br />
