<strong>Judicial</strong> <strong>System</strong> in Saudi Arabia<br />

Many laws and regulations were issued regulating<br />

judicial work, courts and specialized circuits were launched<br />

in many courts premises which contributed to prompt<br />

deciding of disputes. The Supreme <strong>Judicial</strong> Council tried<br />

to mitigate the damage caused by shortage of judges by<br />

approving the “weighting of cases” project which is an<br />

international standard adopted by many advanced countries.<br />

The project was approved following the comprehensive<br />

survey of the operation of the first instance courts made<br />

by the General Administration of the Courts Affairs and<br />

prepared an integrated data base of the size of work in<br />

each court with respect to number of cases, number of<br />

judicial offices, whether vacant or occupied, to consider<br />

requests/ applications for increasing the number of offices<br />

in a practical and proper way in a manner that observe the<br />

number of cases referred to each court and to each circuit,<br />

and as well observing the types of these cases; this will have<br />

a huge effect in determining these steps and procedures.<br />

The idea of this project and its main objective is to list<br />

the types of cases/ disputes brought before courts, classifying<br />

them and determining the average time for considering<br />

them in order to determine an accurate criteria specifying<br />

the number of judges needed for each court pursuant to that<br />

criteria and according to the works of each court to achieve<br />

fairness and balance throughout the Kingdom based on the<br />

decided cases in quality and quantity and the time normally<br />

required, and as well this will serve making an estimate of<br />
