‘Chemicals and substances’ show exposure<br />

to chemicals causing a reaction and bitten by<br />

insects.<br />

Financial costs<br />

Claim costs represent all financial transactions<br />

processed in the period resulting from<br />

incidents attributed to NTDCS for the<br />

reporting period.<br />

The annual costs of $2,061,368 represents all<br />

financial transactions processed in the period,<br />

attributed to NTDCS, but is not indicative<br />

of liabilities incurred in this year as some<br />

workers compensation costs may be ongoing<br />

from previous years and will not reconcile to<br />

the government accounting system; they are<br />

generated for statistical purposes only.<br />

• Costs for <strong>2015</strong>-<strong>16</strong>, being<br />

$2,061,368, an increase of $<strong>16</strong>4,954<br />

up from the previous year of<br />

$1,896,414.<br />

• ‘Slips, Trips and Falls’ were the most<br />

reported incidents during <strong>2015</strong>-<strong>16</strong>,<br />

with $464,204 costs incurred.<br />

• 'Body Stressing’ and ‘Being Hit by an<br />

Object’ continue to be the two highest<br />

cost categories at $749,724 and $504,875<br />

respectively, with these two mechanisms<br />

of injury alone contributing to over half<br />

the costs during <strong>2015</strong>-<strong>16</strong>.<br />

• While ‘Being Hit by Objects’ costs are<br />

lower than the previous year by $136,810,<br />

‘Body Stressing’ costs increased by<br />

$224,339, as has ‘Slips Trips and Falls’ by<br />

$68,867.<br />

• There were no costs associated against<br />

Hazard reporting.<br />

• The top three incidents reported during<br />

<strong>2015</strong>-<strong>16</strong>, are also the top three highest<br />

areas of workers compensation costs for<br />

the Department, with a combined total of<br />

$1,718,803, the remaining split across the<br />

other categories.<br />

• ‘Mental Factors’ costs were $252,087<br />

being the fourth highest contributor to<br />

workers compensation expenditure in<br />

<strong>2015</strong>-<strong>16</strong>, increasing slightly from previous<br />

years.<br />
