Yuendumu Elders meet with DCC prisoners<br />

Women Elders from the indigenous community of Yuendumu, 300 km North West of Alice Springs,<br />

visited DCC for International Women’s Day Celebrations and to give Central Australian prisoners the<br />

chance to catch up with culture and kin.<br />

“Visits by Elders promotes social and emotional wellbeing of prisoners,” Director, Indigenous<br />

Services and Community Engagement, Meg Friel said.<br />

"For prisoners from very remote areas, these visits help their through care planning by providing<br />

access to respected people with cultural authority.”<br />

The Elders spent time with inmates during the Women’s Day celebrations and visited inmates on a one-on-one basis over the following<br />

days.<br />
