Corporate Governance Framework<br />

Corporate governance provides the process and framework by which the agency is governed, it’s<br />

reporting structure and internal management arrangements. Good corporate governance has two<br />

main facets: performance and conformance.<br />

The NTDCS Corporate Governance Framework operates within the values structure set in<br />

the Strategic Intent 2013-20<strong>16</strong>, the NTDCS Code of Conduct and is underpinned by six core<br />

governance principles: Integrity, Courage, Accountability, Respect, Professional Excellence and<br />

Commitment.<br />

The Framework articulates the processes by which the NTDCS is governed including the reporting<br />

structure and internal management arrangements in identifying both strategic and operational risks<br />

as part of the business planning and project management processes.<br />

Elements of the Department’s system of governance include:<br />

• Legislative and statutory compliance<br />

• Leadership, ethics and culture<br />

• Risk management<br />

• External and internal accountability<br />

• Planning and performance reporting<br />

• Stakeholder engagement and communications<br />

• Information and decision making<br />

• Evaluation and review of governance arrangements.<br />

Corporate governance must continually evolve to ensure organisational and service delivery<br />

objectives are met effectively, efficiently and transparently. The current framework, under the<br />

direction and responsibility of the Commissioner, ensures the Department:<br />

• provides strategic direction<br />

• achieves objectives<br />

• manages risks<br />

• uses resources responsibly and with accountability.<br />
