Quickly Formatting Text<br />

You don’t have to know much about character and paragraph formatting to be able to<br />

format your documents in ways that will make them easier to read and more <strong>professional</strong><br />

looking. With a couple of mouse clicks, you can easily change the look of words, phrases,<br />

and paragraphs <strong>by</strong> using Quick Styles.<br />

Word has several types of predefined Quick Styles, but the simplest are those you can<br />

apply to text.<br />

● Paragraph styles You apply these to entire paragraphs, such as headings.<br />

● Character styles You apply these to words.<br />

● Linked styles You apply these to either paragraphs or words.<br />

By default, Word makes just a few of the predefined Quick Styles available in the Quick<br />

Styles gallery in the Styles group on the Home tab. Quick Styles apply a combination of<br />

character formatting (such as font, size, and color) and paragraph formatting (such as<br />

line spacing).<br />

The styles displayed as thumbnails in the Quick Styles gallery have been designed to go<br />

well together, so applying styles from the gallery produces a harmonious effect. After<br />

you apply styles from the current set of styles, you can easily change the look of the
