INTERNATIONAL
CIVIL AVIATION DAY
DECEMBER 7
Chronicles
FLY ME TO THE MOON
International Civil Aviation Day helps generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance
of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of countries.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THE WORLD’S
MOST EXPENSIVE FLIGHT TICKET IS
PEGGED AT USD38,000 OR ROUGHLY
RM160,000?
Etihad Airways’ route connecting Mumbai and New York City
via Abu Dhabi holds the title of having the most expensive
ticket in the world for a commercial scheduled flight as the
one-way ticket on its private luxurious suite, The Residence.
DID YOU KNOW THAT LONDON'S
HEATHROW AIRPORT HAD A PLANE
TAKING OFF EVERY 45 SECONDS
IN 2014?
That's 1,400 flights landing and departing daily and nearly
half a million, annually. That's a lot of air traffic pegged for the
sixth busiest airport in the world for the year 2015.
For International Civil Aviation Day 2015-2018, the Council
has selected the following theme:
“WORKING TOGETHER TO
ENSURE NO COUNTRY IS
LEFT BEHIND”
2015–2018
DID YOU ALSO KNOW THERE IS A
SPECIAL DAY DEDICATED TO THE CIVIL
AVIATION INDUSTRY?
Together with the United Nations (UN) and the International
Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the day promotes and
raises awareness on creating, cooperating and realising a truly
global rapid transit network at the service of all mankind. This
is done through various activities such as seminars, published
material, educational lectures, classroom activities and news
announcements on international civil aviation topics related
to the day.
Moreover, every five years, coinciding with ICAO anniversaries,
the ICAO Council establishes a special anniversary theme for
International Civil Aviation Day. Between these anniversary
years, Council representatives select a single theme for the
full four-year intervening period.
The campaign highlights ICAO’s efforts to assist countries in
implementing ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices
(SARPs). The main goal of this work is to help ensure that SARP
implementation is better harmonised globally so that all
countries have access to the significant socio-economic
benefits of safe and reliable air transport and can address
safety, security and emissions-related issues.
