Ho! Ho! Ho! How do you
CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?
Whether you celebrate the day on a grand scale or you choose to
spend time with a close few, the celebration as both a religious and
cultural event takes place all over the world in many different ways.
The event itself ushers in twelve days of celebration beginning on
December 25 and ending only on January 6. So, we at Convergence
would like to share how or what takes place during this celebration
in 12 countries set to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas and here’s
wishing each and every one of you a Merry Christmas!
ENGLAND
Instead of the American tradition of
leaving cookies and milk for Father
Christmas on Christmas eve, did you
know that British children often leave
mince pies and brandy? As it is winter,
the weather during the holidays is
often cold, wet and foggy. Christmas
Eve depicts a busy household
whereby presents are wrapped,
cookies and pies are baked while
stockings are hung over the fireplace.
On the FIRST DAY of Christmas my
true love sent to me, a partridge in
a pear tree.
GERMANY
German families prepare for Christmas
throughout cold December. Four
Sundays before Christmas, they
make a wreath of fir or pine branches
that has four coloured candles. They
light a candle on the wreath each
Sunday, sing Christmas songs and
eat Christmas cookies. In the weeks
leading up to Christmas, homes are
filled with the delightful smells of
baking loaves of sweet bread, cakes
filled with candied fruits and spicy
cookies called lebkuchen.
On the SECOND DAY of Christmas
my true love sent to me,
two turtle doves
and a partridge in a pear tree.
