PULP BY PAPA PALHETA
PULP's coffee purveyor Marcus Foo says there's more than meets
the coffee at this cafe which is located in what used to be the cutting
room of Art Printing Works (APW), a historical printing factory in Kuala
Lumpur. He said, "The history of this site has a compelling story, as
there is a commonality between paper and coffee. While paper is
derived from pulp, coffee has to de-pulp in order to extract the seeds
from the cherry. The affinity of PULP is where inspiration was drawn
to pay tribute to the coffee cherry and space. Thus, the name."
From cappuccinos to filtered black coffee brews to cold brew coffee
in a bottle, during the month of November, PULP offers free cupping
sessions on retail coffee beans whereby participants can attend a
coffee tasting session which includes specialty coffee from around
the world while the month of December will see the establishment
rolling out a new menu and opening their kitchen till late for dinner.
So, after all those partying, if the lights are still turned on, PULP might
just gladly wind your night down with a warm cup of coffee.
MERCHANT'S LANE
You're drinking coffee in a place that used to be
a brothel. Yes, you read that right. Merchant's Lane
was a famous prostitute lane many years ago!
Today, the cafe brings all the caffeine addicts to
town and is located next to a local law college.
Co-owner Kenneth Tan says the coffee beans used
are from a local roaster while the beans are a single
origin Tanzania bean bordering medium roast. The
coffee proves to be subtle with little hints of citrus,
medium sweetness and some nuttiness to it.
LEPAQ LEPAQ
Lepaq Lepaq is derived from the Malay word lepak, which
means 'to hang out'. The reason for such a name? Well, it is
obvious isn't it? To create a place for leisurely catch-up with
friends and family! So, what are the must-trys at this place?
Get the Rainy Day Coffee which is a cloud of cotton candy
suspended above steaming hot coffee. Heat from coffee
slowly melts the bottom of the cotton candy, causing it to
drip down like rain. Or if you're feeling adventurous, try
Malaysia's national dish in the form of a cheese cake. The
Nasi Lemak Cheese Cake is tinged with morsels of glutinous
rice and peanuts, topped with cucumber gelatin, anchovies
and sambal.
