If you're a local foodie, this man should be no
stranger to you. Known for slurping and swallowing
down bowls of dishes on local TV channel, TV3's
Jalan Jalan Cari Makan (JJCM) (Let's Walk in Search
of Food), Nazrudin or better known as Naz is a
household face among Malaysians. But, the
seasoned TV host is also an actor, emcee, TV show
producer, voice over talent and most definitely, an
avid traveller! In this issue of Convergence, Naz
lets us in on why travelling is important and how
it has shaped him into the person he is today.
CONFESSIONS OF
A TRAVELHOLIC
NAZRUDIN RAHMAN
BESIDES MALAYSIA, WHERE ELSE DO
YOU CONSIDER HOME?
When you live out of a suitcase, there is only one home. My
kids keep me going, my parents and my wife keeps me
anchored to the ground.
HOW FREQUENTLY DO YOU TRAVEL
ABROAD AND WHAT ARE SOME
NOTABLE DESTINATIONS?
That depends on where work takes me. I thank God for the
many opportunities to see parts of the world and indulge in
different cultures. Man-made or God's work, some destinations
are to be remembered for its beauty such as Angkor Wat
(Cambodia) and the Blue Mountains in Australia. Some are
notable for the socio-economic impact like Davos (Switzerland)
and some for its spirituality like Taj Mahal (India) or the
Cathedral of St Vitus in Prague, Czech Republic.
HAVE YOU TRAVELLED TO A NEW
DESTINATION RECENTLY WHICH YOU
REALLY ENJOYED AND WOULD LIKE TO
REVISIT SOON?
I recently visited Phnom Penh and Siem Reap for a few episodes
of Jalan Jalan Cari Makan, hunting for halal food. My God,
Angkor Wat is HUGE! It is the largest man-made religious
structure in the world. Being a history and culture buff, there
just wasn't enough time; the bane of being on a work schedule
while travelling. I would have wished for another two days for
the trip to be complete.
