Malaysia Airports' passenger movement grows to 31.4 million for 2016's third quarter
Malaysia Airports saw 31.4 million passengers in the third
quarter of 2016 resulting in a 5.8% growth over the same
corresponding period in 2015.
Both domestic and international passenger movements
were pegged at 5.1% and 6.7% showing an increase in
movements. The third quarter passenger movements were
12.6% and 10.4% higher than the first and second quarters
of 2016, respectively.

Airports within the country registered 23 million passenger
movements which is a 9.4% increase over 2015. This growth
is the highest for the year when compared to 3.7% and 0.1%
during the first and second quarters in 2016, respectively.

The Malaysian market is thriving and this is partly due to the
growth of both foreign carriers and local airline carriers.
Malaysia Airlines' domestic sector saw a positive turnaround
from July this year while both Malindo Airlines and AirAsia
Group registered positive growth.
The country's national carrier also registered positive growth
for international traffic in September with a 6.3% increase with
the current growth momentum looking to follow till the end
of the year.
However, the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport's
growth in Turkey would likely remain subdued in the last
quarter following the spate of negative incidents in its country.
The airport's performance was affected by terrorist incidents
and political uncertainties especially in the third quarter.
Though the third quarter traffic was higher than the previous
two quarters, year-on-year, the third quarter registered a 3.1%
decline in traffic compared to third quarter in 2015.
