SSM Regulati<strong>on</strong>: the legal act creating a single <strong>supervisory</strong> mechanism for credit<br />
instituti<strong>on</strong>s in the euro area and, potentially, other EU Member States, as <strong>on</strong>e of the<br />
main elements of Europe’s banking uni<strong>on</strong>. The SSM Regulati<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>fers <strong>on</strong> the <str<strong>on</strong>g>ECB</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
specific tasks c<strong>on</strong>cerning policies relating to the prudential supervisi<strong>on</strong> of credit<br />
instituti<strong>on</strong>s.<br />
Supervisory Manual: a manual detailing the general principles, processes and<br />
procedures as well as the methodology for the supervisi<strong>on</strong> of significant and less<br />
significant instituti<strong>on</strong>s, taking into account the principles for the functi<strong>on</strong>ing of the<br />
SSM. It describes the procedures for cooperati<strong>on</strong> within the SSM and with<br />
authorities outside the SSM. The Supervisory Manual is an internal SSM staff<br />
document; a shorter Guide to banking supervisi<strong>on</strong>, explaining how the SSM<br />
operates and detailing the SSM’s <strong>supervisory</strong> practices, was published in<br />
September 2014.<br />
Supervisory Review and Evaluati<strong>on</strong> Process (SREP): the process used to guide<br />
the <strong>supervisory</strong> review of significant and less significant credit instituti<strong>on</strong>s and to<br />
determine whether (<strong>on</strong> top of minimum legal requirements) possible additi<strong>on</strong>al<br />
requirements should be applied with respect to own funds, disclosure or liquidity, or<br />
whether any other <strong>supervisory</strong> measures should be applied.<br />
