Humanities
Department Vision:
Humanities students and staff are lifelong learners with a global perspective.
At Mayflower Secondary (MF), the humanities educators strive to encourage students to develop knowledge, respect
for and understanding of different perspectives, values and attitudes and an appreciation of the complex interactions
and interdependence of individuals, societies, and their environments. With the development of the relevant skill
sets, we hope to instil in our students a love for the humanities and a desire to be proactive global citizens with a deep
connection and love for his/her country.
This year we delved into collaborative inquiry that required teachers to reflect and study pressing instructional
problems. Teachers poured over students’ work and collected evidences of student learning and the lack thereof to
pinpoint areas of concern and explored ways to overcome these challenges.
The MF Social Studies Unit embarked on the pilot programme for the launch of the Student Learning Space (online
portal developed by MOE) to trial resources and platforms to promote self-directed and collaborative learning by
harnessing the use of ICT. We worked with CPDD to trial lessons. It was a mutually beneficial partnership as our teachers
benefitted from the support provided by CPDD while we provided invaluable feedback to aid in the implementation of
lessons for SLS.
