Taekwondo
The Mayflower Taekwondo CCA aims to impart the art of self defense to
its members. It builds up the discipline and resilience of students through
rigorous training sessions that aim to challenge the students physical and
mental strength.
During the January recruitment drive, our members interacted with parents
and prospective Secondary One members, answering their queries and
promoting Taekwondo as sport that imparts the values of humbleness,
honesty, helpfulness and respect. They had put up a self-defense
demonstration that showcased the tough yet thoughtful nature of the sport.
With the guidance of our coaches – Mr Brian
Peh and Ms Evonne Kua and the leadership of
our CCA leaders – Lee Yee Tzien (3A) and Liew
Yu Heng Ryan (3A), the Mayflower Taekwondo
Team achieved an exceptional total of 5 Gold
Medals, 15 Silver Medals and 32 Bronze medals
in the 2017 National Inter-School Taekwondo
Championships.
This effort secured 3 national titles for
Mayflower Secondary School! Namely, an
overall third placing for the B Division Boys Kyorugi Category, an overall 4th placing for the B Division Girls Kyorugi
category and an overall 4th placing for the C Division Girls Poomsae Category.
In addition, some of our athletes competed overseas at the
21st Asian Cities Taekwondo Championships in Hong Kong and
clinched a Gold Medal for Kyorugi.
