EXPORT PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICES SECTOR<br />

• Certa<strong>in</strong> services are tradable. <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> has <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>gly become an exporter of services, particularly to other<br />

<strong>Africa</strong>n countries but also globally, currently be<strong>in</strong>g the lead<strong>in</strong>g exporter and importer of commercial services on<br />

the cont<strong>in</strong>ent.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> broad services sector’s share of overall exports (i.e. goods and services) rose steadily over the years to<br />

28.7% <strong>in</strong> 2018, reflect<strong>in</strong>g relative competitiveness.<br />
