MANUFACTURING SECTOR’S EXPORT PERFORMANCE<br />

• <strong>The</strong> manufactur<strong>in</strong>g sector accounted <strong>for</strong> 57.2% of <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>’s total merchandise exports <strong>in</strong> 2018. <strong>The</strong> sector<br />

has a high export propensity, with the follow<strong>in</strong>g sub-sectors be<strong>in</strong>g the most oriented towards export markets<br />

(average export propensities over the past five years <strong>in</strong>dicated <strong>in</strong> parentheses): professional and scientific<br />

equipment (81.9%); motor vehicles, parts and accessories (57.8%); other transport equipment (56.1%);<br />

television, radio and communications equipment (52.2%); basic non-ferrous metals (51.9%).<br />
