7.1.2.3 Job scheduling using the TSM scheduler<br />

A better way to schedule backups is to use the TSM scheduler, which is<br />

included in the TSM client backup/archive code.<br />

The benefits of TSM scheduler are th<strong>at</strong>:<br />

The TSM administr<strong>at</strong>or coordin<strong>at</strong>es the different client schedules from a<br />

focal point so th<strong>at</strong> you do not have to login into different servers.<br />

With a single select, you are informed of the st<strong>at</strong>us from all events of all<br />

client schedules.<br />

7.2 RMAN report, list, and crosscheck utilities<br />

RMAN utilities provide inform<strong>at</strong>ion of the backups or image copies you have<br />

made. You can gener<strong>at</strong>e reports about backups and images copies with the<br />

report and list commands; and can valid<strong>at</strong>e your backups or image copies<br />

with the crosscheck command.<br />

The report command performs a detailed analysis of the backups you have<br />

made. You would use this command to verify if you are implementing your<br />

backup str<strong>at</strong>egy the way you intended. It can produce the following types of<br />

inform<strong>at</strong>ion from the recovery c<strong>at</strong>alog:<br />

The d<strong>at</strong>abase schema<br />

Which d<strong>at</strong>a files require a backup<br />

Backup files th<strong>at</strong> are obsolete and can be deleted<br />

D<strong>at</strong>a files th<strong>at</strong> are not recoverable<br />
