If you are planning to use the 64-bit TDP for <strong>Oracle</strong>, you must use TCP/IP as<br />

the communic<strong>at</strong>ion protocol.<br />

There are two packages for different UNIX pl<strong>at</strong>forms. The default install<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

directories are shown in Table 1.<br />

5.1.2 Define environment variables<br />

The TSM API uses unique environment variables to loc<strong>at</strong>e files. This allows<br />

you to use different files for API applic<strong>at</strong>ions to those th<strong>at</strong> are used by the<br />

TSM backup client, if necessary.<br />

For <strong>Oracle</strong> version 7 and the Enterprise Backup Utility, the user initi<strong>at</strong>ing the<br />

backups and restores had to define environment variables. <strong>Oracle</strong> Version 8<br />

and RMAN work differently, because RMAN is started by a d<strong>at</strong>abase process<br />

now. The environment variables for TDP for <strong>Oracle</strong> are passed by the RMAN<br />

alloc<strong>at</strong>e channel command.<br />

For the TDP for <strong>Oracle</strong> password file gener<strong>at</strong>ion, described in 5.1.5, “Initialize<br />

the password” on page 66, environment variables are still used.<br />
