The following is a description of our test d<strong>at</strong>abase environment:<br />

The oper<strong>at</strong>ing system DBA user is oracle8 in the production and backup<br />

machine.<br />

The oper<strong>at</strong>ing system group name is dba in the production and backup<br />

machine.<br />

The d<strong>at</strong>abase name is tokyo and only exists in the production machine.<br />

The d<strong>at</strong>afiles, redo logs, and control files are in an ESS volume. Note th<strong>at</strong><br />

the redo logs and control files need not be on the same volume.<br />

The archive logs are in a local directory.<br />

The c<strong>at</strong>alog d<strong>at</strong>abase (RMAN) exists in the production machine. The<br />

name was specified in the listener.ora file.<br />

On the production machine, there is a tnsnames entry for the tokyo<br />

d<strong>at</strong>abase, and the c<strong>at</strong>alog d<strong>at</strong>abase.<br />

In the backup machine, only the c<strong>at</strong>alog d<strong>at</strong>abase has an entry in the<br />

tnsnames.ora. There is no entry for the tokyo d<strong>at</strong>abase.<br />

The ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE is<br />

/orc8/app/oracle/product/815<br />

Our dsm.opt file in /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin in the production machine<br />

(auckland) and in the backup machine (swiss) looks like the one below. Note<br />

th<strong>at</strong> the dsm.opt file need not be in this directory, but it must be in the same<br />

directory on both machines.<br />

The stanza for swiss2 in the dsm.sys file in /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin in the<br />

production machine (auckland) looks like this:<br />
