Backup/archive client<br />
This allows users to maintain backup versions of their files, which they can<br />
restore if the original files are lost or damaged. Users can also archive<br />
files for long-term storage and retrieve the archived files when necessary.<br />
A command line interface, n<strong>at</strong>ive GUI interface, and Web browser<br />
interface are available for the backup/archive clients.<br />
Applic<strong>at</strong>ion program interface (API)<br />
This allows users to enhance existing applic<strong>at</strong>ions with backup, archive,<br />
restore, and retrieve services. When users install the Tivoli Storage<br />
Manager API client on their clients, they can register as client nodes with a<br />
Tivoli Storage Manager server.<br />
The Tivoli Storage Management solution set also includes the following client<br />
programs:<br />
Tivoli D<strong>at</strong>a Protection for applic<strong>at</strong>ions (applic<strong>at</strong>ion clients)<br />
This allows users to perform online backups of d<strong>at</strong>a th<strong>at</strong> is used by<br />
particular applic<strong>at</strong>ions such as d<strong>at</strong>abase programs. After the d<strong>at</strong>abase<br />
initi<strong>at</strong>es a backup or restore, the applic<strong>at</strong>ion client uses the API to<br />
interface to Tivoli Storage Manager. The Tivoli Storage Manager server<br />
then applies its storage management functions to the d<strong>at</strong>a. The<br />
applic<strong>at</strong>ion client can perform its functions while users are working, with<br />
minimal disruption. Tivoli D<strong>at</strong>a Protection clients are available for <strong>Oracle</strong>,<br />
Informix, SAP R/3, Lotus Notes R4, Lotus Domino R5, MS Exchange and<br />
MS SQL Server.<br />
Tivoli Space Manager (hierarchical storage management client)<br />
This provides space management services for clients on some pl<strong>at</strong>forms.<br />
Tivoli Space Manager users can free client storage by migr<strong>at</strong>ing less<br />
frequently used files to server storage. These migr<strong>at</strong>ed files are also<br />
called space-managed files. Users can recall space-managed files<br />
autom<strong>at</strong>ically simply by accessing them as they would normally. You can<br />

Tivoli Disaster Recovery Manager<br />
This autom<strong>at</strong>ically gener<strong>at</strong>es a disaster recovery plan containing the<br />
inform<strong>at</strong>ion, scripts, and procedures needed to autom<strong>at</strong>e restor<strong>at</strong>ion to<br />
help ensure quick recovery of your d<strong>at</strong>a after a disaster. It autom<strong>at</strong>ically<br />
manages and tracks the media on which your d<strong>at</strong>a is stored, whether<br />
on-site, in-transit, or off-site in a vault, so your d<strong>at</strong>a can be easily loc<strong>at</strong>ed if<br />
disaster strikes.<br />
