10.1.3 Registering the target d<strong>at</strong>abase<br />

Having cre<strong>at</strong>ed a recovery c<strong>at</strong>alog, you must register the target d<strong>at</strong>abases to<br />

it. Use RMAN commands. Registr<strong>at</strong>ion must be done before any other RMAN<br />

functions can be performed on the target d<strong>at</strong>abases.<br />

You register each of the target d<strong>at</strong>abase instances th<strong>at</strong> will use the recovery<br />

c<strong>at</strong>alog. As the <strong>Oracle</strong> user run the rman command to connect to the target<br />

and recovery c<strong>at</strong>alog d<strong>at</strong>abases and then run the register d<strong>at</strong>abase<br />

command.<br />

The following example shows the commands to connect to the BEACH target<br />

d<strong>at</strong>abase as the internal user and the RIO recovery c<strong>at</strong>alog d<strong>at</strong>abase as the<br />

newly cre<strong>at</strong>ed rman user, followed by the target d<strong>at</strong>abase being registered<br />
