7.2.1 Report utility<br />

The list command queries the recovery c<strong>at</strong>alog, and its primary purpose is<br />

to determine which backup copies are available for use when recovery is<br />

needed. You require this list to loc<strong>at</strong>e and publish inform<strong>at</strong>ion, such as a list<br />

of backup sets containing:<br />

A backup of a specific d<strong>at</strong>a file<br />

Backups for a specific tablespace<br />

Backups for the whole d<strong>at</strong>abase<br />

The crosscheck command queries the recovery c<strong>at</strong>alog and verifies whether<br />

backup sets marked available or expired are available.<br />

For objects stored on disk (type disk ): The command determines whether<br />

the header of the backup piece is valid.<br />

For TSM objects (type sbt_tape ): The command simply checks th<strong>at</strong> the<br />

backups exist.<br />

You can use this utility regularly to verify if your backup is still available.<br />

Following are examples of how you can use these utilities to perform<br />

day-to-day monitoring. For the complete syntax of these utilities, please refer<br />

to the <strong>Oracle</strong>8i Recovery Manager User’s Guide and Reference, A76990-01.<br />

The report utility provides analysis of your backup and recovery situ<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Following are examples from the report utility.<br />

You can report the structure of the d<strong>at</strong>abase as follows:<br />
