construction projects in the civil engineering, parking,
hydraulic engineering, industry and energy markets.
The work varies from concept development, design and
construction to management and maintenance.
BAM Civiel’s main office is situated in Gouda. BAM Civiel
has four regional branches and three specialist divisions:
BAM Speciale Technieken, BAM Civiel Prefab Beton and
BAM Civiel Bekistingfabriek. BAM Civiel has around 750
employees.
BAM Civiel launched a development programme in 2011
to increase the added value of the organisation for
customers and reduce costs. Lean methodology is a
major part of this programme, which wiIl continue in
2012. The collaboration between BAM Civiel and the
other BAM civil engineering companies also increased in
order to improve the acquisition and implementation of
integrated, multidisciplinary projects.
The civil engineering projects completed during the year
include the Hartel Cycle Bridge in the Botlek area of
Rotterdam, the tram depot for the RET transport
company in the Rotterdam neighbourhood of
Beverwaard and the renovation of the IJ Tunnel in
Amsterdam. Work in progress includes the Burgerveen
to Leiden South section of the A4 motorway, the
‘Stadsbrug’ bridge in Nijmegen, the ‘OV SAAL’ project
(expansion of rail capacity on the Schiphol-Amsterdam-
Almere-Lelystad line), the widening of the Utrecht
Lunetten to Veenendaal stretch of the A12 motorway, the
‘Green Port Lane’ road-building project (N295) near
Venlo, the ‘Hovenring’ crossroads in Eindhoven, the
‘Poortvrije Passages’ (shopping arcades) at Amsterdam
Central Station and the renovation of the Vollenhover
Bridge which links the provinces of Overijssel and
Flevoland. Construction of Europapark Station in
Groningen officially started.
The underground civil engineering works for the New
Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (lot 1) are now complete in a
project that won the Schreuder Award in 2011 for
innovative and socially responsible use of underground
space. The deepening of the basement for Ardagh Glass
in Dongen was completed. Work is in progress on
underground car parks in Apeldoorn, Nijmegen and
Rotterdam.
2011 saw BAM Civiel introduce ‘BAM GO-Park’, an
integrated approach to building underground car parks
that includes the entire process from initiation and
designing the underground car park through calculation
of the costs, construction and exploitation.
In the hydraulic engineering segment, construction of
the quay walls is at an advanced stage in Maasvlakte 2
and in the Wilhelminahaven part of the Eemshaven
harbour area. Building work started on the Sluiskil Tunnel
under the Ghent-to-Terneuzen canal.
The projects delivered in the industry and energy
segments included the concrete and steel work for a
combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) for Essent in
Moerdijk. The SITA ReEnergy waste energy plant in
Roosendaal was officially opened in October. BritNed’s
convertor stations – the electricity link between the
Netherlands and England – were completed by BAM
Civiel and BAM Nuttall. The cooling water station at the
EnecoGEN power plant also came on line in 2011.
BAM Civiel has been certified at the highest level of
ProRail’s CO performance ladder since 2010 and is now

certified under version 2.0 as well. BAM Civiel was also
awarded the ISO 14001 Environmental Management
Certificate in 2011.
