In Thuringia, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau is part of the
consortium carrying out the ‘Silberberg Tunnel’ and
‘Northern Thüringen Forest’ projects for DB Projektbau.
These two projects involve the construction of a total of
9.5 kilometres of railway tunnel and two viaducts as part
of the 107 kilometres long new Ebensfeld-Erfurt rail link.
Delivery of the construction work is planned for the
spring of 2012.
In Wilhelmshaven the two tunnel boring machines broke
through to the end shaft after only four-and-a-half
months. During the tunnel-boring process the company
will also be installing four cooling water pipes for a new
coal-fired power station in Wilhelmshaven. The customer
is GDF SUEZ Energie Deutschland.
Before the second sub-project was complete, the
topping-out ceremony for the Katharina Hospital was
held in Stuttgart at the customer’s request. This project
is currently the largest hospital construction project in
Baden-Württemberg. As the consortium’s technical
manager, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau is responsible
for the construction of the new ultramodern Olga
Hospital and the women’s clinic. In Büttel/Schleswig-
Holstein, the foundation stone was laid to mark the start
of the project to build the HelWin 1 converter station
which will be needed in connection with the Meerwind
and Nordsee Ost offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
The customer is Siemens, Sector Energy.

Malaysia, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Libya.
Currently the company has several projects in progress
worldwide in the non-residential, construction and civil
engineering sectors.
In the Middle East, BAM International started phase 4 of
the Oman Botanic Garden, some forty kilometres from
the capital Muscat. The project includes the construction
of two climate-controlled biomes with a total area of
17,000 m2 , as well as entry gates, garages, workshops,
train stations, a mosque, an educational centre, facility
buildings, extensive habitats and sundry buildings. In
2011 a contract was awarded for the extension of a wharf
for a container terminal in Aqaba, Jordan. At year-end
2011, the contract for the construction of two pipelines
in Doha, Qatar, was completed and a new contract was
secured for the construction of a new port in Aqaba,
Jordan.
In Tanzania, BAM International completed the 150
kilometre Iyovia-Iringa Tanzania-Gambia Highway road
improvement scheme (phases 1, 2, 3 and 5). During 2011
BAM was also awarded the variation order of phase 4 of
this highway, which is the 68-kilometre stretch between
Iringa and Mafenga, planned to be completed in 2013.
The 95-kilometre road improvement scheme for the
Laela Sumbawanga road section in south-west Tanzania
is moving forward according to schedule and will be
completed at the beginning of 2013. BAM International is
executing both road construction projects in a joint
venture with the Danish construction company Per
Aarsleff.
In Sierra Leone BAM completed the renovation of an iron
ore jetty, as well as the construction of navigation aid
structures and two mooring dolphins in Pepel, close to
the capital Freetown.
